Coppa wins Gr.3 & remains undefeated

Tony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino’s Coppa [USA] was all heart and remains undefeated in winning the Gr.3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont Park today.  The 3-year-old daughter of Yesbyjimminy [USA] covered the 6½ furlongs on the main track in 1:16.23 for jockey Joe Talamo in what was another great training effort from Phil D’Amato.

Coppa won last season as a two year old at Del Mar, breaking her maiden in style and then following a break she then followed it up with another impressive performance at Santa Anita in May before D’Amato elected to ship the filly to the East coast to tackle more experienced foes in the Gr.3 event.  She didn’t have it her own way either, posted three wide for the entire trip although she showed all her guts and determination to fight off the challengers to score a valuable win.

Bred in Florida by Carlos Rafael, Coppa was purchased by Boomer for $210,000 at the OBS two year old in-training Sale last April. She has since gone undefeated in her three lifetime starts with earnings now over $156,000.
