The imposing 4yo Scales of Justice [AUS] produced another outstanding performance today to win the $150,000 Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes over 1500m at Ascot in Perth. Following on from a strong win two weeks prior, the bay gelding jumped well from the barriers and sat just behind the speed before jockey Paul Harvey poured the pressure on entering the straight and then showed his customary determination to fend off his rivals to win by a length. Trainer Lindsey Smith, who has done a marvelous job with the horse, reported following the win that he will look to back Scales of Justice up next Saturday in the $1m Gr.1 Railway Stakes over a mile.
Scales of Justice is by proven sire Not A Single Doubt [AUS] from the Umatilla [AUS] mare Beymatilla [AUS] and was purchased by Boomer for success owners Chris Wells & Bill Andrews at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale for $180,000 from the draft of Millford Thoroughbreds. The Gr.3 win took Scales of Justice’s record to 12 starts for 6 wins, five seconds and 1 third with earnings of $317,350.
Earlier in the day another Boomer purchase, I Am Boudica [AUS], a three year old daughter of War Chant [USA] added some valuable black type to her resume with a 3rd placing in the Group 3 $200,000 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes for trainer Vernon Brockman and owners Tony Patrizi & Ron Sayers at just her fifth start.
