Magic Millions 2017 Video Sales Wrap

It was a busy and exciting week for Boomer Bloodstock!  In the midst of a very strong market at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale, Boomer was able to secure 15 yearlings totaling $3,657,000 for clients both new and existing.  Throughout Book 1 of the sale, 649 yearlings were sold for $134,292,500.  The clearance rate held at 87%, down just 2% from last year’s clearance rate of 89% with five yearlings selling for $1 million or more

Boomer teamed up again with young Melbourne trainer Matt Cumani to secure five yearlings.  The first Lot 44 – By Nicconi and out of the Blackfriars mare Garden of Eden, this colt was the first purchase of the sale for $110,000 from Aquis Farm.  The colt’s dam Garden of Eden, is a sister to Grand Nirvana, a multiple Gr.3 winner, and earner of over $1 million, who is also Gr.1 and 2 placed and this colt is a big, strong powerful type who could be an early runner for Cumani.

Lot 143 – This well developed Declaration of War colt out of the Encosta de Lago mare Kristeva, who is a full sister to Gr.2 winning and multiple Gr.1 placed Vocabulary.  The mare is also a half sister to 5 time winner and Listed placed runner Synonym and was purchased for $62,000 from the Redbank North draft for syndicator Domain Thoroughbreds and will head to the stable of Matt Cumani.

Lot 223 – This colt by first season sire Epaulette out of Milieu was purchased from the Yarraman Park Stud draft for $260,000.    The colt was an absolute standout on type and looks an exciting early runner for clients Sean Tomlinson, Tony Tighe and partners.  The mare has produced three foals to race, all winners and she is a full sister to Listed winner and Gr. 3 placed Squad – Shanghai Lad and a half sister to Paratroopers, a multiple Gr.1 and 2 winning son of Commands making this colt very closely related to the Gr.1 winner. The colt is to be trained by Tony Gollan.

Lot 232 – Among the most exciting purchases of the sale was the cracking Dundeel colt out of multiple Gr.1 winning mare Miss Finland (Golden Slipper, VRC Oaks, Australian Guineas to name a few).  A wonderful type and rated by Boomer as his top pick on type in the sale, the colt is a half brother to Gr.1 winning Stay With Me  and Gr. 2 and Listed placed Woodbine.  Boomer’s highest priced yearling to date, the colt was purchased for $900,000 from the Arrowfield draft for clients Sean Tomlinson, Tony Tighe and partners.  He will be trained by Bjorn Baker.

Lot 237 – Purchased for $150,000 from the Marquee Stud draft, this Not a Single Doubt filly is the first foal out of the Sydney winning mare Miss Opulence.  This filly is quite typical of her sire and looked good value on the market for the Matt Cumani stable.

Lot 238 – Striking again Boomer picked up another colt from the Arrowfield draft.  By Not a Single Doubt and out of Gr.3 placed mare Miss Sharapova, the colt is to be trained by Bjorn BakerA winner of four races herself, Miss Sharapova is a half sister to Gr.2 winning Villa Verde, also by Not A Single Doubt who was rated the joint top 3yo sprint filly in Australia in 2013/14.   By the same sire as Boomer’s recent Gr.1 winner Scales of Justice, this colt is a wonderful type and was purchased for $320,000 for Sean Tomlinson, Tony Tighe and partners.

Lot 257 – a beautifully bred bay filly by Smart Missile out of Musical Lady and was purchased for $130,000 from Sledmere Stud.  The city winning Carnegie mare Musical Lady is out of the Stakes winner Boisterous Lady and is a half sister to the Gr.1 Australian Oaks winner Rena’s Lady, Gr.2 winner Vatuvei and the Gr.3 winner Raise and will head to the Matt Cumani stable.

Lot 322 – Matt and his parents, Luca and Sara Cumani, purchased this filly as a broodmare prospect down the line for their Fittocks Stud.  With an impressive page, the Not a Single Doubt filly is out of the Encosta de Lago mare Polska, who with two foals to race is already dam to two Gr. 2 winners in Catch a Fire and Seaburge. She was purchased for $280,000 from Widden Stud.

Lot 351 – This I Am Invincible colt out of the Stakes placed Success Express mare Radiant Star.  She is dam of four foals to race, all winners, including Gr.1 placed winner Scratch Me Lucky.  The Stakes placed mare is a half sister to Gr.3 winning Nediym’s Glow as well as Royal Glow, the dam of Gr.2 winner Kinglike.  To be trained by Tony Gollan, the colt was the highest rated by the sire sensation I Am Invincible in the sale according to Boomer and was purchased from Yarraman Park Stud for $550,000 for clients Sean Tomlinson, Tony Tighe and partners.

Lot 371 – This well balanced filly is the first foal out of the two year old winning O’Reilly mare Reilly O’, by the successful sire Stratum and was purchased for $130,000 out of the Edinglassie Stud draft for client Murray Thoroughbreds.  A winner herself, the mare is a full sister to the Stakes winner Kildare, and a half sister to Stakes winner One Love.

Lot 507 – Was one of Boomer’s top filly picks of the sale on type, this lovely I Am Invincible filly is the first foal out of winning Commands mare Tabliope, herself a half sister to smart Gr.3 and Stakes placed two year old Northern Glory.   She was purchased for $320,000 from Sledmere Stud for client Murray Thoroughbreds.

Lot 555 – A big imposing filly by American sire sensation Uncle Mo out of the Hussonet mare Valhussle, this filly was purchased for $240,000 from Milburn Creek for client Murray Thoroughbreds.  The dam herself was a five time winner including multiple city wins and she hails from a powerful family with her dam Ribe, by Danehill a Gr.2 winner and her full brother Reaan a Gr.1 winner of the Blue Diamond as a two year old.

Lot 591 – This Smart Missile colt out of Zefta, the full sister to Magic Albert, was purchased for $50,000 from the draft of Widden Stud.  The dam of 9 foals to race, she has produced 7 winners, including Gr.2 winning and multiple Gr.3 and Listed placed Go The Knuckle and looked a value play for the Matt Cumani stable.

Lot 850 – This filly by sire sensation I Am Invincible who was had just sired the Magic Millions two year old winner the day before is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Salila and was purchased from the Yarraman Park Stud draft for $80,000 for Syndicator Regal Bloodstock.  The mare, a Stakes placed winner of 3 races, is a full sister to both Gr.3 winning Gypsy King, and Stakes placed winner Albanov.  The filly was a beautiful type and appeared to be unbelievable value at the price and will head to Melbourne to trainer Henry Dwyer.

Lot 861 – This Lope de Vega filly out of Hussonet mare Sonette was plucked from the Kitchwin Hills draft for $75,000 for syndicator Domain Thoroughbreds, to be trained by Matt Cumani.  The dam is a half sister to Gr.3 winning Castlethorpe while her grand dam Park Express, a champion two and three year old racehorse is also a blue hen mare producing the likes of New Approach, Dazzling Park (dam of Alfred Nobel), Shinko Forest, Alluring park (Dam of Was).  The filly looks sharp and early and Boomer thought she was great buying on both type and pedigree.
