Our Regal Warrior (Nicconi) lived up to his favouritism, romping home against older horses at Geelong on Friday in his second start.
The Matt Cumani-trained 3-year-old never looked in doubt under a confident ride by jockey Dean Holland. Holland’s only work in the straight of the 1100m maiden event was checking over his shoulder to see just how far ahead they were – a casual seven lengths eased down.
“He’s the quickest one I’ve sat on for a while,” Holland told racing.com after the race. “I had to sit up because he was just going to win by too far. There’s plenty of improvement to come.”
Stable representative Andrew Bobbin mentioned that the colt’s next target will be a 3-year-old race before the end of the season, but the stable would take a few days to assess how he came out of the race. A step up to city class would likely be considered.
Our Regal Warrior was purchased by Boomer Bloodstock for $82,500 at the 2016 Inglis Classic sale for Mark Burckhardt’s fledgling syndication company Regal Bloodstock.
